How to choose an SD card for reliable video surveillance?

A video surveillance system is a high-load setup that requires meeting certain technical standards for stable operation. MicroSD memory cards used with Faceter cameras must meet a number of requirements.

Based on our experience operating surveillance systems, we have compiled a list of requirements to help you buy a genuinely reliable memory card.

  1. Endurance class (Endurance / High Endurance). Look for cards marked “High Endurance”: these formats are designed for repeated rewrites and around-the-clock operation. Regular cards wear out quickly under such load.
  2. Storage capacity. 24 hours of recording requires approximately 20 GB (the final value depends on resolution and activity in the frame). Estimate how much archive you need and choose the appropriate card size. Faceter cameras support cards up to 256 GB.
  3. Write speed:
  • Minimum acceptable: Class 10, UHS-I U1 (10 MB/s);
  • For Full HD and above: V30 or higher is recommended (from 30 MB/s).
  1. Reliability and lifespan. Check the TBW (Total Bytes Written) or the stated recording lifetime (in hours or years). The higher the value, the longer the card will last.

We recommend choosing memory cards from trusted manufacturers (SanDisk, Samsung, Kingston, Transcend, WD Purple, Seagate) and purchasing only from verified retailers (large chain distributors, official sales points of well-known companies).

It is strongly not recommended to buy memory cards from online marketplaces: there is a high risk of receiving a counterfeit under a brand-name label.
